Notes from a fellow World Traveler

Our collective service goal at Afro Brazil Tours & Travel is to promote high level, sustainable, tourism and destination stewardship with an overzealous attention to detail in our overall operating philosophy that, at its core, is committed to servicing our clientele’s appetite for adventure and discovery in their travel experience.

Central to our mission, going forward, is to motivate you to expand your mind, explore new worlds and most of all immerse yourself into the majestic beauty of Brazil.

Our primary corporate goal is to offer all of our tour guest, affordable, customized group and private tours to Rio de Janeiro, Salvador Bahia Brazil and beyond. Our unique Brazilian excursions will always offer our clientele, value, quality, adventure and discovery on the road less traveled. We invite our diverse clientele of educators, professionals, ministers, professional/church groups and students alike to embrace the unique opportunity of enjoying an authentic travel experience that will prove to be enlightening, entertaining, and engaging on an emotional, physical, intellectual and spiritual level.

In other words, we’re not your regular sightseeing tour operator - instead our exotic Brazilian excursions are designed as educational and cultural experiences. You’ll be introduced to the many cultural disciplines that make up the Afro-Brazilian experience. Moreover, our cultural vacations will allow you the personal freedom to totally immerse yourself into today’s Bahiathe omnipresence of Afro-Brazilian Music, the pace and rhythm of life, the Afro-Brazilian Cuisine, and the warmness of the people of Bahia.

One of our primary tour destinations in Brazil is Salvador Bahia , historic name: São Salvador da Bahia de Todos os Santos, in English: "Holy Savior of All Saints' Bay") was the first capital of colonial Brazil located on the northeast coast of Brazil and the capital of the Northeastern Brazilian state of Bahia. Salvador is also known as Brazil's capital of happiness due to its easygoing population and countless popular outdoor parties, including it street carnival which is the largest carnival celebration in Brazil.

If you’re a total ‘Newbie’ and you’ve never been to Salvador Bahia, or if you’ve only been to Rio de Janeiro and thought that Copacabana and Ipanema was all that Brazil had to offer you – then we simply ask that you come with us to Salvador Bahia just once and we’ll guarantee that you’ll be glad that you did.

Salvador Bahia is Brazil's third most populous city, and former capital, is now the capital of Bahia state. Salvador is also the ninth largest city in Latin America. Divided into two distinct sections by an escarpment, the city offers beaches ideal for swimming and diving. Inlets with great surfing waves beckon nearby, and rolling hills and mountains provide a backdrop to the city. Salvador da Bahia, often abbreviated to Bahia by Brazilians, is one of Brazil's cultural highlights. This city of nearly 3.6 million people has managed to retain its African soul and develop the best of its colonial legacy into a unique, vibrant culture.

Salvador Bahia is often referred to as the ‘Soul’ of Brazil. Ornate churches still stand on cobblestone streets. Festivals are spontaneous, wild, popular and frequent. Candomblé services illuminate the hillsides while Capoeira and afoxé dance through the streets.

Our Exclusive group trips to Brazil for New Years Eve and Carnival are comprised of smaller groups by design to guarantee ample opportunities for our tour clients to delve into Brazil’s diverse cultural and spiritual traditions. We maintain the group size of these exclusive excursions to no more than 10 to 17 travelers. Our Classic Discovery trips are open to more guest than our Exclusive excursion. Both New Years Eve and Carnival celebrations occur during Brazil’s ‘High Season’ summer months in Brazil with Carnival celebrations normally occurring during either late February or early March.

Our two annually, scheduled, Classic Discovery trips to Salvador Bahia are the second week of August and the first week of December. See our Tour Schedule page for the dates of our next Good Death Sisters – Afro-Brazilian Religion Festival in Cachoeira Bahia.

On a more personal note, I must confess that the first time I experienced New Years Eve in Salvador Bahia I was in total bliss, complete happiness, spiritual joy, all that and more! For starters, it is December and its summertime in Bahia – Yes, it was like my world was turned upside down. Here in the USA its winter in December and most Americans are indoors celebrating New Years Eve or watching that stupid lighted ball drop in New York’s Time Square. New Years in Brazil means you’re more than likely out on the beach (the weather is hot, but not sticky) and you’re celebrating and partying with thousands of peaceful, happy, people all united for one single cause on this occasion – Big Fun!

Normally I shy away from large crowds stateside, especially here in
Los Angeles where I call home - but I approached New Years Eve in Salvador Bahia the first time with No Fear! I say this because Brazilian people are, for the most part, content people whose happiness is not necessarily derived from personal material wealth, but from the collective moments of joy and happiness they experience in their daily life. I guess you could say it is almost like it is in all Brazilian’s DNA to simply find a way to ‘Cherish the Journey’ in their lives.

The vision and motivation that inspired the creation of our Brazilian discovery tour service can be summed up by repeating the promise I made to myself during my first trip to Salvador Bahia. After experiencing one of the most spiritual days in my entire life, relaxing on a secluded beach on the island of Itaprica just off the coast of Barra Bahia – on that day I made the promised to myself that I would devote the rest of my productive life promoting a personal brand of Brazilian tourism with the primary goal of exposing all of my family, friends, and their friend’s - friends to the Beauty of Bahia Brazil. One thing led to another and Afro Brazil Tours & Travel was created to help expose the world to the Beauty of Salvador Bahia and beyond.

In closing, you’ve probably noticed that I’ve not mentioned Rio de Janeiro with its world famous beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema – aka The Girl from Ipanema So, let me take a moment to express my personal belief that in the city of Rio de Janeiro you’ll witness some of the most scenic urban cityscape vistas on earth! The unique landscape around Sugarloaf Mountain, CorcovadoChrist the Redeemer, Ipanema and Copcabana offer you vivid panoramic views of Rio de Janeiro that are simply unparalleled and majestic in stature. No worries, we offer two excellent city tours for you to see Rio inside and out in a single day!

Don’t forget when we’re in Rio de Janeiro there are many other travel options available to us - there is the resort beach town of Buzios, located near Copacabana in the state of Rio de Janeiro. Once in Rio de Janeiro we’ll also be close to Iguazu Falls which ranks just behind the mighty Brazilian Amazon region, as Brazil’s second greatest natural wonder. It was said that upon seeing Iguazu Falls, then United States First Lady, Eleanor Roosevelt, reportedly exclaimed “Poor Niagara Falls”! Yes, the Iguazu Falls is that humongous!

All of our ‘Exclusive’ and ‘Classic Discovery’ customized tour packages will include an optional 2 or 4 night stay in Rio de Janeiro – the truly international city that never sleeps. If your discretionary travel budget permits a longer stay with us in Brazil, we encourage you to experience Rio de Janeiro at least once in your lifetime!

In my opinion, both Salvador Bahia and Rio de Janeiro are two cities in this world that I believe all astute world travelers should visit at least once in their lifetime - especially African American vacationers who wish to explore the common heritage of people of African descent.

Lastly, when we encourage you to - Live Your Passion - we’re really asking you to come discover the exotic beauty of Brazil and experience moments of complete happiness and spiritual joy that will live inside your heart and mind forever.

Take it from me there is a lot to love about Brazil, the country, the culture and the people. Yes, my love for Salvador Bahia was immediate – love at first visit – all that and more - It happened to me and it can happen to You!

Remember, our specialty is providing affordable. customized, group tours to Salvador Bahia and Rio de Janeiro for African American travelers who desire more than the ordinary when they vacation.
